Lone Star Cyclocross Festival huge success; Boone-Roubaix ramping up

The Lone Star Cyclocross Festival was a huge success. The event featured two days of racing, including the Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop Texas Age-group Championships on Saturday and the Skill-based Championship on Sunday, drawing over 250 racers from across Texas, as well as Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Oregon.

The races were featured on the local KEYE nightly news, and Cyclocross Magazine had reporter and photographer at the race. This follows on coverage leading up to the race in both Bicycling Magazine and Spirit, the Southwest Airlines in-flight magazine. A number of nationally ranked professional riders attended the race, and thanks to numerous amateur photographers in attendance, pictures and video of the event are circulating on dozens of blogs, Facebook pages, Twitter feeds, and bulletin boards, giving our sponsors even greater coverage.

The race was also the official premier of Team Pirate Race Productions, where we solidified our position as the number one women’s cyclocross team in Texas, and demonstrated our team’s ability to host exceptional events. Our 60 members in Texas, the Carolinas, New England and Colorado not only win races, but they provide the backbone of volunteer support necessary to make our races a success.

Next up is Boone-Roubaix, April 3 in Boone, North Carolina. The next great American Classic, the race will feature miles of unpaved roads and unpredictable weather, balanced by breathtaking scenery and and the High Country’s legendary hospitality. Are you up for the challenge?

Oh, glorious night!

Twenty-three of us toed the line this week, the course was dry and fast, everyone’s bike was clean at the end of the night, and there was lots of chatter about heading down to Cary and Raleigh this weekend to go school the Flatlanders at the NCCX opener. Results are posted. Please take a moment and familiarize yourself with the people you will be riding behind.

Week 6 – Out of Towners Rule

We are half way through the inaugural season of the High Country Cyclocross Series and 100 of you have toed the line. This week was all about the out-of-towners, as the crews from Mock Orange Bikes and Luna Cycles packed the starts, with Boone Velo proudly represented by Noah Niwinski who recovered from a near disastrous start to soft pedal to an impressive win in the As and Jeremy Edwards and Justin Canipe working the Bs. Boone area teams: get Rick Presnell and Steven White on your roster quick – these guys look fast.

Also, if you have not seen it yet, check out this a rad race video from Week 4.

We are no longer taking the course down every week, so expect more time to pre-ride on a better marked track. However, please don’t head out there and poach on non race days. We’ve got big plans for the Fairgrounds in the coming years, and want to stay in good with the property owners, who live on site.

HCCX Week 5 Results Posted

It was another record night at the Fairgrounds, with Terry Jennings joined by a huge crew from Mock Orange Cyclocross Syndicate who made the drive up from Winston. Furthermore, this week saw sponsor Mike Boone‘s return to competition. No head-to-head yet between he and Shaw Brown, but with the Mock Orange staff on hand, all we need was Jeff Welch to show and it will be something of a high country shop rat championship. Me, I’m waiting for the Sara Brown v. Shelli Welch grudge match.

Results and Standings are up – we’ll have the hometowns updated for next week.
